51st Reunion Toronto, Canada

51st Reunion-   IITK 65 Batch   TORONTO 2016

[2016 September 15-18]

INFORMATION BROCHURE:

Your Team Toronto has prepared 4 days and 3 nights of fun filled activities for you to enjoy and take back with you to remember forever! This brochure will give you the day by day activities planned (and are subject to change if required) and a cost summary in the end for your convenience. We have also included Niagara Falls as an add-on option with costs. We ask that anyone who is interested in the Niagara Falls option to please let us know as soon as possible, no later than May 20. If sufficient interest is not shown, then it will not be a viable option for us to include with the group. Individuals may do their own trips and we are happy to assist any way we can.

Thursday September 15:

Arrivals and Check-in at Homewood Suites. If you are arriving at Pearson Airport, you have the option to call the airport shuttle, which is a free service provided by the hotel.

After you have checked in, please join us in the Adda Room  (Pearson Room B), for your first meeting and gup shup with everyone. We will be stocking the room with snacks, finger food, soft drinks and also alcoholic beverages for those inclined to imbibe. Tea and coffee will be available around the clock. The hotel will serve a light meal from 5pm to 7pm , which we should try.

Catered cuisine will be served from 7pm onwards, so we can all enjoy a sitdown dinner together, with your favorite alcoholic beverage or soft drink. Then linger over liqueur, a selection of famous Canadian ice wines, crackers, cheese and fruits.

You can play Teen Patti, Bridge, and gup shup or gaali the rest of the evening.

Friday September 16:

Yoga classes with Jaya starting at 7am in the Adda Room

After yoga, enjoy a hot buffet breakfast, which is included with the package

Uday Mahagaokar will be moderating a IITK funding session in the Adda Room at this mid morning time  (around 10am to 11am)

Lunch at a hakka Chinese place where you can enjoy your favorite Chinese dishes.  Toronto has a large selection of hakka restaurants, like Chung Fa in Kanpur. You can sample Chilli chicken, sweet corn soup and many more.

Come back to the hotel to freshen up and change for the banquet and assemble in Adda room for a drink or two and head out for dinner/dance with music from 7pm. We are in the final stages of selecting the Banquet Hall.  Also those who have greased their throats and/or those who enjoy singing, Karaoke or Shairi can showcase their talents.

Saturday  September 17:

Yoga classes with Jaya starting at 7am in the Adda Room

After yoga, enjoy a hot buffet breakfast, which is included with the package

Planning a dosa lunch either in a restaurant or in a picnic area with sports to be organized by Ish. Play a game of cricket or simply relax.

Rest of the afternoon is free time for you to do as you wish. Those who wish to visit downtown Toronto for sightseeing or shopping are welcome to do so.

Swami Narayan Mandir is a famous tourist attraction in Toronto and is fairly close to the hotel. A golf course is nearby for those who want to try wood and iron.

We are planning an exciting Boat Cruise on Lake Ontario in the evening, with great views of the city skyline. We may have dinner on the boat or outside- will make a decision on that shortly.

Return to the hotel for gup shup and receive a Loot bag.

Sunday September 18:

Enjoy a hot buffet breakfast, which is included with the package

Time to meet again in the lounge area for final gup shup before check-out.

After checkout, everyone is invited to Raj and Prabha’s residence for a barbeque and a dip in their swimming pool.

HOTEL

We will stay and meet at Homewood Suites by Hilton in Mississauga.  It backs on to a golf course which in turn backs on to a lovely park. Yet the hotel is reasonably close to Toronto’s Pearson airport and to many restaurants.  All our accommodations are in suites with full kitchens, stove, fridge and utensils.

The hotel provides free shuttle to the airport, 24/7.  Breakfast is free for hotel’s guests; a (very) light meal is also provided free Monday to Thursday evenings.  Our group has obtained some rather attractive prices from the hotel (up to 2 adults per bed; CAD $ per night):

1 King bed: $129; 2 Queen beds: $ 139; 2 bedrooms: $239

Further details of the hotel are available at the hotel’s website: http://homewoodsuites3.hilton.com/en/hotels/ontario/homewood-suites-by-hilton-toronto-airport-corporate-centre-YTOMIHW/index.html

Room Costs- (based on the $129 rate, includes HST):   $219 ($171 US)

(You are responsible for booking and paying for the rooms)

Common Costs

(all meals, banquet hall dinner, boat cruise and dinner, and Adda room):    $480  with HST   ($375 US)

(Exchange Rate used is 1 CAN $ = 0.78 US)

Note: There will be a cash bar for alcoholic beverages at the Banquet hall and boat cruise dinner, so that is not included in the per person costs

Common costs are based on an estimated group size of 40 individuals.

NIAGARA FALLS OPTIONS- ADD ON TO ABOVE

If we choose this option, it will commence immediately after lunch at Raj and Prabha’s residence on Sunday September 18.

For those who are interested in visiting the Falls, the option is to drive there from Raj’s residence. We will reach the Falls in the evening, check-in at the hotel, and can enjoy the view of the Falls after sunset with the lighting.  It is an absolutely amazing sight to see the Falls with all the lights turned on.  Then have dinner either at the hotel or at one of the many restaurants there.

Next morning after breakfast see the Falls by day and if time permits, can take the Maid of the Mist boat ride to the foot of the Falls and several other attractions there. You can also visit a local winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake and have a sumptuous lunch there.

Once we have an idea of how many people are interested, we can provide details of the costs involved and the time. Roughly, it will cost an additional $200 CDN per person.

Please let us know if you are interested in going to Niagara Falls by May 20 latest.

Thanks from,

Team Toronto
